Off Campus Student Life
Off Campus Student Life offers resources, special programs, and events to help you find off campus housing, stay connected to campus, and link you to your new off campus neighborhood.
Located in Bartlett 105, the Off Campus Student lounge offers a relaxing lounge and work space with quick access computers, refrigerator and microwave use, free hot drinks, and access to staff that can help answer your housing questions. If you need a place to store your things between classes, they also offer locker rentals for the semester or school year.
Office and Lounge Hours: Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm
Good Neighbor Registration
Off Campus Student Life also runs Good Neighbor Registration (GNR), a popular way to register your off campus gathering on a Friday or Saturday night if you live in Amherst or Hadley. Registered gatherings that receive a noise complaint will get a one time courtesy warning from the police department instead of having an officer respond at your door.
Living Off Campus Certification
Living Off Campus Certification is an online tool for learning about rental applications, off campus housing costs, landlord/tenant rights and responsibilities and more! It is available as an optional Canvas course. Click here and log in to Canvas to join the course. If you have any trouble logging in, click here for troubleshooting tips and IT support.
SNAP Drop-In Sessions
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is a public benefit program which provides eligible individuals and families with a monthly stipend to use towards the purchase food. Many students are eligible and don’t even know it! If you are a PELL-eligible student, a student with $0 EFC, or a student who is eligible for work-study, AND you do not have a meal plan which provides ⅔ or more of your food, you may be eligible! If you are interested in learning more about the eligibility and application process for SNAP (formerly known as food stamps), the Food Bank of Western MA is available year-round to assist you in signing up for SNAP benefits. You can reach them by phone at 413-992-6204.
In addition, the Off Campus Student Center hosts SNAP drop-in sessions during fall and spring semesters. For additional food and housing security support resources, visit the Dean of Students Office website.
Code of Student Conduct
The Code of Student Conduct (CSC) applies to UMass Amherst students both on and off campus. The purpose of the Code is to reinforce and encourage the development of good decision-making as well as personal and group integrity and to teach these skills where lacking. You, your housemates, and guests can be subject to legal liability, fines, and university sanctions for violations. The Dean of Students Office will be involved in any violations of the Code of Student Conduct or Campus Policies.
